ADHD Assessment Pathway

So you think you have ADHD?

The process of being assessed for ADHD is categorically not ADHD friendly. It involves multiple appointments, long wait times and the ability to access the far reaches of your childhood memories. It can also be a costly exercise – but one that can ultimately free you from shame, provide you with insight and pave the way to a happier, more fulfilled you.

RESEARCH

Research ADHD diagnosticians in your area. This could be a psychiatrist or a neuropsychologist.

REFERRAL

Schedule an appointment with your General Practitioner (G.P.) to discuss your symptoms and request a referral for evaluation.

SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT

Schedule an appointment with your chosen ADHD specialist. Be prepared to wait 3-6 months for an
appointment.

GATHER EVIDENCE

Prior to your appointment, spend some time gathering evidence that may support your diagnosis. This could include school reports, letters from former teachers/coaches etc.

EVALUATION

Be prepared to answer questions about how ADHD symptoms
impacted you in childhood, as well as how they now impact you in
occupational and social settings.

DIAGNOSIS

Suspicions confirmed? Many people who are diagnosed later in life experience a rollercoaster of emotions. Take time to process the news with someone you trust.

TREATMENT

The gold standard treatment for ADHD involves a combination of medication and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or ADHD Coaching.
